10 DAYS · 9 NIGHTS | AOMORI TO TOKYO

Discover the quieter landscapes and living traditions of northern Japan. Journey from Aomori’s festival culture and Oirase’s forest streams to Akita, the lakes of Tohoku and the Sanriku coast, before continuing to Tokyo.

A suggested private journey, shaped around your dates, interests and preferred pace.

Your Ten-Day Journey

Day 1 · Begin in Aomori

Start in Aomori city with the waterfront and Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse. In early August, an evening at the Nebuta Festival can form a memorable opening; on other dates, discover the floats and local traditions through the museum. Arrival arrangements are tailored to your point of departure.

Day 2 · Hirosaki & Aomoriya

Explore Hirosaki Castle Park and Tsugaru-han Neputa Village, with its festival displays and Tsugaru shamisen. Continue to Misawa for two nights at Aomoriya by Hoshino Resorts, leaving time for hot springs and the property’s Aomori-inspired atmosphere.

Day 3 · Art, Oirase & Lake Towada

Discover Towada Art Center, a selected forest walk beside Oirase Stream and the lakeside scenery of Towada. We balance art, walking and driving around your interests, then return to Aomoriya for a relaxed evening.

Day 4 · South to Akita

Travel south to Akita, with a comfortable break along the way. When your dates coincide with the Kanto Festival, enjoy the lantern-filled evening before staying in the city. Outside festival dates, explore local heritage and regional cuisine at a gentler pace.

Day 5 · The Spirit of Oga

Continue to the Oga Peninsula for Namahage Museum and a traditional demonstration at Shinzan Folklore Museum. Discover the open coastal landscapes around Nyudozaki, followed by time to unwind in an onsen setting. GAO Aquarium can replace part of the sightseeing for families.

Day 6 · Kakunodate & Lake Tazawa

Head inland to Kakunodate’s preserved samurai district, with time for historic streets and local craft traditions. Continue to Lake Tazawa for a lakeside pause before travelling on towards Morioka. The day is kept to a few considered stops.

Day 7 · Ryusendo & Jodogahama

Cross Iwate to Ryusendo Cave, known for its clear blue underground lakes, then continue to the white rock formations and sheltered waters of Jodogahama. Stay near the Sanriku coast so the landscape can be enjoyed without an immediate return journey.

Day 8 · Coast to Morioka

Enjoy an unhurried coastal morning before returning to Morioka. Choose city walks, local craft and food experiences, or a countryside visit to Koiwai Farm when timing allows. We recommend one focus rather than rushing between them.

Day 9 · Shinkansen to Tokyo

Travel from Morioka to Tokyo by Shinkansen. Settle into the city, then explore Ginza, architecture, galleries or dining according to your interests. The evening can be kept flexible after the journey.

Day 10 · A Thoughtful Farewell

Enjoy a final morning in Tokyo before your journey concludes. Additional sightseeing, an extended stay or onward arrangements can be planned around your schedule; no particular international flight or airport is assumed.

This is a suggested itinerary, tailored through consultation. Nebuta Festival is normally held 2–7 August and Akita Kanto Festival 3–6 August; viewing dates, reservations and the order of visits are confirmed for each departure. Outside festival dates, year-round cultural visits replace the festival evenings. Museum closures, weather and local operating conditions may affect the programme. Aomoriya is subject to availability. Other accommodation and dining are recommended to suit your preferences, budget and dietary needs.
